How to get a girl to be your girlfriend?

So this the girl I really like and she really likes me to and we've been fooling around for a while and I really want to be with her but I don't really know what I should do. I heard just to wait and let her ask is what I should do but she's kind of shy and I worry if she'll be afraid to ask. Any suggestions?
